Dear Cub & Parents

I hope you are all enjoying the summer holidays, maybe doing some activity badges or just enjoying the summer weather outdoors.

The new term marks a very exciting time for cubs continuing with our 90th Birthday year and entering into the Scout Centenary.  2007 marks a 100 years of scouting, as well as hosting the 100th jamboree there will be many additional events for all sections throughout the year.  I hope this will mark for all our cubs something they will remember all their lives.

However, I would like to draw your attention to 2 main issues. Budgeting for activities and manpower.

To help spread the costs we are starting an activities bank.  By contributing a few pounds a week or, when you can, to your bank you can then use this to offset costs at any of the scouting activities that will happen through the coming year.  This means that each cub can participate in all the fantastic camps, outings, trips and activities that will be on offer.  Enclosed is a form with the details.

We now have a serious problem of manpower.  Unfortunately due to work commitments we have lost two assistant leaders and a regular helper has moved away from the area. Also with some large changes to my own life I cannot continue all my duties as CSL (Cub Scout Leader) in the same way as last year. Fortunately we still have Hamish and Chris who do a fantastic job and we like it to be fun for us all without being under pressure. Therefore we are in desperate need of help to spread the load.

I have enclosed a list of jobs that we require help with, most of these require only few hours a week or the occasional weekend.  We have ‘minimum standards’ which we need to keep to and ratios of adults to young people is a key part. Without the required number of adults present we would have to cancel some activities so please be aware of this and help all that you can. Why not stay one evening and just see what we do. Come and speak to myself or GSL (Group Scout Leader) John to see what contribution you could make.
