Subscriptions are the costs of joining a scout group. Subscriptions do not cover all the costs the group incurs. Fundraising is not only essential but a real must.
So what do your subscriptions cover? Well the first and biggest cost is our hall hire. We do not have our own hall but we do get a discount on using a community hall in our local area. The next largest cost is capitation. This is a fee which all cubs, scouts, explorers, network, leaders and helpers must pay each year to register with the scout organisation. Lastly the remainder of your subs pays for the group’s insurance premium.
So what doesn’t your subscriptions cover? Everything else, including the badges the cubs and scouts earn, all equipment used in both our indoor and outdoor meetings and the cost of district events we enter.
Do the leaders get paid? NO, all of the leaders and helps do so voluntarily and take no payment.
We feel that your child’s involvement in scouts should be a partnership. We would also like to open up opportunities for you all to be involved in some way whether it is on the committee, fundraising, at weekly indoor meetings, camps & other outdoor activities. (You can download an adult volunteer form from the forms page) You will however have to fill in a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) form for clearance.
So you want to join us, what do you do now? Phone the contact number for the section required on our contact page to find out when we meet. At the bottom of this page is a registration form, which needs to be filled in and returned to us. At the bottom of the form there is a gift aid declaration, if you are a taxpayer it would be very helpful to the group if you could fill that in. We can reclaim the tax on your subs which helps towards our funds, once signed we do the rest; you will have no contact with the Inland Revenue.
Come along to the next meet and introduce yourself to a leader who can answer any or all of your questions. Stay and experience a typical meeting with us to see if you like it. If you do then you will need to get insured, don’t worry it’s painless all you will need to do is pay £3 a meet. After a maximum period of six weeks you will be required to undertake your investiture into the scout organisation and switch to termly subscriptions or leave.
So what is the cost of 2nd Hemel Hempstead’s subscriptions? Subs for the new term, are £33.00, if paid in the first 3 weeks of a new term the cost is reduced to £30.00 per term.
The first meetings of the new terms are:
- Spring Term 4th January 2006
- Summer Term 19th April 2006
- Autumn Term 6th September. 2006
If you prefer you can pay for the whole year (3 terms) with a discount of £5.00 i.e. £85.00. If you have a specific problem with paying subs on the first meeting please do speak to our subs officer Martin Brooks or alternatively contact our GSL (Group Scout Leader) John Larkin from the contact page.
We would also like your continued cooperation in the dropping off & collecting of your child, making sure that there is a leader present, and we know that your child has been collected by the person that he/she should have been collected by. We are only doing this for the safety of your child(s).
